Overview If you're interested in psychology or aiming to become a professional psychologist or researcher, this three-year degree is designed for you. You'll study core psychology subjects including clinical psychology foundations, developmental and social psychology, psychological assessment and intervention and how to conduct research. You can focus on clinical neuroscience or learn about the psychology of culture and global citizenship, human relationships or even animal-human relationships. You can also apply to complete a psychology-related field placement and will have opportunities to study Autism Spectrum Disorders with specialists from the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre (OTARC). We work closely with industry bodies such as the Australian Psychological Society, along with hospitals and community centres, to make sure you're in touch with the latest developments in the field. You can choose elective subjects from dozens of areas outside psychology including legal studies, criminology, business, management, marketing, sociology, sciences, genetics, language, drama, media studies, and more. To become a psychologist you'll need to complete further training (fourth year study and a postgraduate degree or work-based internship). Professional recognition The Bachelor of Psychological Science is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). Professional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia will require an APAC-accredited fourth year and additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree as well as an application to the professional body. Career outcomes Our course prepares you for further professional training in a range of areas including clinical psychology and clinical neuropsychology which can lead to careers in various settings in mental health services. Graduates who want to pursue a career outside psychology can look in areas such as research, recruitment agencies, government agencies, marketing companies, advertising agencies, education, human resources or any other area that requires skills in data analysis, critical thinking, report writing, time management, communication and presentation. After appropriate fourth-year studies and postgraduate training, graduates may work in clinical or neuropsychology, involving diagnosis and therapy.
