专业简介

Overview Psychologists seek to understand how the mind works and why people behave the way they do. Speech, hearing and language professionals have the privilege of helping people to communicate with others. Both professions seek to provide strategies that can help people lead happier, healthier and more productive lives. This prestigious and interdisciplinary double degree is ideal for those who wish to develop a substantial skillset in both psychology and speech, hearing and general linguistics. Such skills will prepare you for a career in specialist fields such as clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, organisational psychology and professional psychology, as well as for clinical work or research in audiology and speech language pathology, forensic speech science, and the development of associated speech and hearing technologies. KEY FEATURES You’ll have access to one of the best equipped research and clinical environments in the world for speech, hearing, language and cognitive science. The psychology component will develop your knowledge of the complexities of human behaviour - how development occurs, how personality forms, and how factors like society and culture affect behaviour. The linguistics component will develop your understanding of the production and perception of spoken language, such as the way we produce speech sounds using the vocal apparatus; the way the brain (via the ear) responds or fails to respond to different aspects of speech and language; how languages differ in the way they use speech; how language develops in children; the relationship between language and culture; and how computers can be used in speech, hearing and language analysis. You’ll have the opportunity to gain relevant workplace experience in a professional or community setting that's relevant to community and allied health. This course is a pathway into our masters courses in psychology, speech pathology and audiology. Career Opportunities A Macquarie course can set your dream career in motion.
