The Master of Engineering (Mining) provides graduate Engineers with discipline specific knowledge and technical skills in advanced mining engineering. The degree covers many areas such as mine design and planning, mining systems, resource estimation and mine evaluation, mining geomechanics, mine ventilation and climate, mine health and safety, and computer applications in mining engineering.
This degree
The Master of Engineering delivers expert skills and applied competencies required for the professional engineer. It is designed to train and enhance professional practice, advance technical and specialist skills, and provide an opportunity to put theory into practice with applied projects and research. The degree also delivers communication, strategic and project management skills essential to the practising engineer.
What you will study
You will complete the core subjects in Engineering Computing, Project Management, Innovation & Design, and Research Methods.
For the Mining major you will study subjects in Surface Mining, Underground Mining, Environmental Controls in Mines, Mineral Valuation and Risk Analysis, Advanced Mining Safety, Mine Planning and Development, Rock Mechanics and Advanced Mineral Resource Estimation Methods.
Course Learning Outcomes
Students graduating from the Master of Engineering will be able to:
Research and synthesise key information, and apply expert judgement in engineering design and project planning.
Interpret information and communication knowledge, ideas and procedures to both expert and non-expert audiences.
Employ independent learning strategies to update own knowledge in the field and keep pace with innovations in engineering techniques, industry trends and standards.

An Honours Bachelor degree in an appropriate discipline at Class II Division 2 or higher or appropriate Master of Philosophy with a strong thesis performance. Special Admission Requirements: All applicants for research degrees must submit a written (preferably typed) proposal as part of their application. This proposal should: commence with a statement detailing any previous research or project experience you have undertaken, including if possible a copy of the abstract of such work; contain, in no more than one additional page, a clearly focused research proposal for the study you would wish to undertake throughout your registration in the course; and conclude with a statement of your motivation for wanting to undertake the research course. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.5 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 6.0); TOEFL – 88 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking – 18).
