This degree is for high achieving students who have completed the three-year Bachelor of Science degree with a major in either Human Geography or Land and Heritage Management, and achieved the required academic standard of at least a credit average (65%). This Honours year is an added year of study at the end of the general Bachelor degree, and involves a year of research training.
This degree
This one-year Honours program provides you with the opportunity to undertake research on a topic of interest. An Honours degree may be used as a gateway to higher research degrees, a research-focused career, or for professions requiring advanced analytical and investigative skills.
What you will study
The UOW Bachelor of Science (Honours) majoring in Human Geography, and Land and Heritage Management investigates issues of global significance, especially the human impact on the Earth, the management of landscapes, and the planning of cities and regions. During your Honours year you will conceptualise, plan, undertake and report on an independent geographical research project. You will construct an evidence-based approach to identify and develop your leadership potential as a geographer in the changing world.

UOW recognizes secondary qualifications from more than 40 countries and education systems, including GCE A levels, International Baccalaureate and SAT, and can assess students who have completed the equivalent of Australian high school (Year 12) for direct entry to the first year of a Bachelor degree. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.0; TOEFL - 79, Pearson PTE - 57.

Admission into Honours is competitive. To be considered for entry into the Bachelor of Science Honours, students will:
have qualified for, or be a graduate with a relevant pass degree from the University of Wollongong, or hold an equivalent qualification from another institution;
normally have completed at least 24 credit points of 300-level subjects relating to the Honours discipline;
normally have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 70% for the 24 credit points of 300-level subjects relating to the Honours discipline;
be aware that admission is also subject to an appropriate project being available, and acceptance by an academic supervisor;
complete a separate application form for entry to Honours;
be recommended by the relevant Head of School; and
be approved by the Head of Students of the Faculty.
English Language Requirements: IELTS Academic Overall Score of 6.0, reading 6.0, writing 6.0, listening 5.0, speaking 5.0; TOEFL (Internet-based) score of 79, reading 18, writing 18, listening 16, speaking 16; Cambridge English: CAE and CPE score of 169; PTE Academic overall score of 57 (Reading and Writing 57, Speaking and Listening 50).
