Terrorism, and how to deal with it, has become one of the key security challenges of the 21st century. By combining our Criminology and Global Security degrees you will learn to integrate your knowledge in criminology and security to address contemporary concerns. Through interdisciplinary understanding, you will develop an appreciation for how security is threatened by terrorism and how counterterrorism measures may restore security in our local and global communities. Under our Bachelor of Criminology you can choose to specialise in: Criminal Behaviour, Crime Science (only university in Australia to offer this) or Legal Studies. You will learn about the causes of burgeoning crime rates, the criminal mind and behaviours, and explore the legal system and how it shapes our society. Our Bachelor of Global Security allows you to specialise in: Terrorism and Counterterrorism Studies. This course will teach you the meaning, historical evolution and causes of contemporary terrorism, how it affects society and what measures can be put in place to counteract it. Why study a combined degree in Criminology and Global Security at Murdoch? You can combine a degree in Criminology and Global Security at Murdoch to create a unique course that is not offered anywhere else in Australia. This unique combination offers complementary perspectives on a range of interconnected domestic and global issues – for example, interpersonal violence, terrorism and political violence, transnational crime (including money laundering) - and appropriate responses such as policing. Graduates with a combined Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Global Security will be able to offer employers a nuanced understanding of criminal behaviour and crime science along with the security challenges of the Indo-Pacific (including Australia), their political policy and legal contexts, and potential resolutions. You could travel to Indonesia for a semester as part of the Study Indonesia program where you can put your learning into practice. Your combined degree will give you a unique skill set and double your career opportunities with the ability to step into two different fields and graduate with two qualifications. Learn from expert academics who are actively involved in policy development and media commentary, and who regularly provide their expert opinion and advice on terrorism and criminology related issues.
