Adopts a contemporary approach to the education of practitioners in the areas of policing and corrections.
Students will develop an understanding of the theory and research that informs policing practice and offender management, as well as excellent academic literacy skills, including cultural awareness. The course facilitates students' practical skills and provides opportunities to apply learning.
Course Learning Outcomes
Adapt the fundamental principles, concepts and techniques in criminology to work with young people and/or adults in custodial and non-custodial settings in both individual and collaborative settings.
Apply technology and transliteracy skills to summarize and evaluate quantitative and qualitative research and its application to different contexts in criminology.
Communicate criminological knowledge to express ideas, using both written and oral forms and applying English language proficiency for varied audiences.
Demonstrate accountability for personal outputs and development by reflecting on practices and performance in individual and collaborative settings.
Demonstrate broad technical and theoretical knowledge with depth in theoretical criminology perspectives, principles and legislation required for practice in criminal and social justice professions.
Demonstrate cross cultural awareness and indigenous cultural competence to work with indigenous people and other cultural groups within criminal justice settings.
Demonstrate initiative and judgment to generate ideas and recommend evidence-based solutions for criminological paraprofessional practice.
Identify, analyze, synthesize and act on the theories of criminology and social justice in both national and international jurisdictions.
Interpret and communicate responses to recommend appropriate and sustainable solutions to sometimes complex problems in criminology, applying policies, procedures in ethical, legislative, international and global perspectives.
Employment opportunities
This course links closely with the WA Police Academy and the Department of Corrective Services, giving students the opportunity to participate in relevant practical training and providing a career pathway into policing or corrections. The course also provides a unique career development opportunity for those working in the area of policing, security, public safety, custodial corrections or community corrections. Students are able to apply their existing knowledge of policing and/or offender management to their learning and develop their academic literacy skills with a high level of support. These skills include understanding and applying research, academic writing and critical thinking.

Applicants must have obtained minimum of 24 points (minimum of 28 points for Law) consisting of aggregate from 3 higher level and 3 subsidiary level. English Language Requirements accepted: Academic IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 6.0; TOEFL: Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better; TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17; GCE O Levels: Grade C or better; PTE Academic: PTE Academic 52, with no scores less than 50 for courses with a current requirement; University of Cambridge [Cambridge English: Advanced]: Pre-2015: A score between 52 - 57 with no less than 'Borderline' in any element of the test. Post-2015: An overall score of 169, with no individual band less than 169; or a minimum TOEFL score of 550 including TWE of 5.
国际学生入学条件
All applicants are required to meet the admission requirements of the Western Australian Police or the Department of Corrective Services. Applicants who have previously completed equivalent police or corrections training in another jurisdiction will be considered for entrance.

University of Cambridge [Cambridge English: Advanced] - Pre-2015: A score between 52 - 57 with no less than 'Borderline' in any element of the test; Post-2015: An overall score of 169, with no individual band less than 169
Edexcel International GCSE - English Language A, English Language B, or English Literature - Grade C or above; English as a Second Language (ESL) - Grade B or above.
