专业简介
The Doctoral degree programs within the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (BABS) provide the highest level of training in key areas of scientific research.
Students work on an independent research project encompassing the broader interests of one of the research teams within the School. In the early stages of the program, students receive close supervision and guidance in the management of their project. In the later stages, however, students are encouraged to exercise initiative and demonstrate originality. In the last year of the program, the candidate should be able to work independently and be guided rather than directed by the supervisor.
Biotechnology at UNSW
UNSW has one of the strongest gatherings of world-class biotechnologists in Australia and has for decades been recognised for its internationally competitive advantage in this research area. Using the latest enabling technologies in bioanalytical chemistry, genomics, imaging, and informatics, BABS researchers investigate globally relevant biotechnology areas in the environmental and medical sector:
Biomaterials and nanotechnology for environmental applications
Bioprospecting for enzyme and drug discovery
Novel biocatalysts and bioactives
Biofilm and biofouling control
Water quality and reuse
Bioremediation and biofuels
Transcriptional regulation and cellular reprogramming for the treatment of cancer, blood diseases and metabolic disorders.
Novel chemotherapeutics for the treatment of cancer
Biomaterials for wound repair and regenerative medicine

The minimum requirement for admission to a PhD is:
an appropriate UNSW Bachelor degree with upper second class Honours; or
a completed Masters by Research from UNSW with a substantial research component and demonstrated capacity for timely completion of a high quality research thesis; or
an equivalent qualification from a tertiary institution as determined by the Faculty Higher Degree Committee (HDC)
