The Honours year consists of supervised research and coursework available to suitably qualified graduates of Griffith University and other recognized tertiary institutions.
This program enables students to advance the knowledge and experience acquired at the undergraduate level, and prepares them to undertake research work for continued postgraduate studies in this and other universities. It also provides first level training for those wishing to practice as psychologists in Australia.
Professional recognition
The Australian Psychological Society recognizes graduates of this award.
As a graduate of the Honors year in psychology you'll be eligible for general registration, with probationary conditions, as a psychologist in Queensland. You'll be eligible for associate membership with the Australian Psychological Society.
Full registration requires a further two years of approved postgraduate study or supervised on-the-job training with a registered psychologist.
The Psychology Board of Australia requires applicants for registration as a Psychologist for whom English is not the first or native language, to submit evidence to the Board of competency in both oral and written communication in English. Please contact the Psychology Board of Australia for further information regarding requirements.
International students should be aware that an IELTS score of 7.0 is a requirement for conditional registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.

English Language Requirements accepted: A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0; an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19); a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL; or no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only);or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): Minimum grade of C on the or a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Minimum grade of C on the or Pearson Test of English (Academic): Overall score of 58 with no score less than 50.

Applicants must have successfully completed all the studies required for the award of a Bachelor degree which includes a three-year sequence in Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. To be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours, students who have completed Bachelor of Psychological Science (1012) or Bachelor of Psychological Science (1312) must meet the following criteria: Complete the three years of prescribed coursework in Bachelor of Psychological Science (1012) or Bachelor of Psychological Science (1312); Achieve a GPA of at least 5.0 for all second and third year Psychology courses; Achieve a GPA of at least 5.0 in the eight following second and third year Psychology courses: 2000PSY Experimental Design and Analysis; 2006PSY Cognitive Psychology; 2007PSY Biological Psychology; 2008PSY Social and Cultural Psychology; 3011PSY Lifespan Development (offered in 2017) OR 2015PSY Developmental Psychology (offered from 2018); 3003PSY Survey Design and Analysis; 3006PSY Psychological Assessment of Individual Differences; 3009PSY Abnormal Psychology.
