专业简介

The Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (Honours) is an elite four-year program that combines broad and rigorous cross-disciplinary training in politics, philosophy and economics. Join a small, motivated and high-achieving group of students who aspire to leadership roles. You’ll study together as PPE specialists, drawing on your knowledge of history, society, politics and economics to examine current and future global challenges. Choose to major in politics, philosophy or economics from your second year to prepare for a career in economic analysis, policy-making, political leadership, public commentary, international affairs or the diplomatic service. Career outcomes As a graduate of the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (Honours) you’ll be highly regarded for your finely tuned research, analytical, critical reasoning and problem-solving abilities. Professional opportunities exist across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors in fields including economic analysis, policy-making and political leadership, public commentary, international affairs and diplomatic services. Employers might include: Financial institutions, Stock broking firms, Merchant banks, International organisations, Diplomatic and foreign services, Public sector departments and agencies, Industry associations and trade unions, Business councils, Defence and intelligence services, and Community service providers Majors Economics The study of economics is central to an understanding of business, markets, trade, government policies, international issues, globalisation, health, development, and the environment. This major is for anyone with an interest in becoming an analyst, adviser, or economist in either the public or private sector. As a student in this major, you'll undertake advanced-level coursework in microeconomics or macroeconomics, including relevant study of econometrics. Philosophy The study of philosophy will introduce you to key ideas in a range of areas of inquiry including epistemology, ethics, logic, metaphysics, the history of philosophy, and the philosophy of disciplines such as art, science, education, and politics. You’ll receive intellectual training in the critical evaluation of theories and arguments, and learn how to construct arguments and communicate ideas in a clear and powerful way. You’ll also acquire advanced analytical reasoning skills and general problem-solving abilities. In addition, philosophy will help you develop sound methods of research and analysis that can be applied in your other courses. Politics Every economy in the world today is “mixed” in the sense that market and state combine to provide goods and services, while government oversees the regulation of markets. As a result, even businesses in the most competitive markets need to engage with policy-makers and bureaucrats. As a student in this major you’ll study the interactions of state and market in great detail through case studies of particular policies and institutions, and at a more general level through theories of governance and politics.
