专业简介

This four-year program provides an in-depth musical education to those who want to excel in their chosen instrument, and develop a thorough knowledge of music history, theory and research. Undertake study in your chosen instrument or voice to develop your technique and ability to perform. You will also study a range of additional courses that cover different aspects of music. Benefit from a flexible program structure. After your first two years, you can choose to specialise in two majors, one extended major, or one major and one minor. Graduate with the knowledge, leadership, and technical skills that will set you apart in your music career and provide a pathway to future research or learning. Program structure The courses offered in the Bachelor of Music (Honours) are set out in the course list. Each course is allocated a certain number of units (#). A standard full-time study load is 8 units per semester. The Program Rules explain what is required to complete the Bachelor of Music (Honours). These requirements include the total number of units you need to complete in order to graduate. Majors Composition Students in the Composition major receive individual or small-group tuition to develop and realise their musical ideas. The major focuses on analytical as well as creative activities, alongside the study of selected repertoire. Music Learning Students in the Music Learning major develop wide-ranging musical skills and knowledge to prepare them for careers as music teachers, or music generalists. Musicology Musicology students complete scholarly studies in music history, music analysis, historical performance practice, and techniques of Renaissance and Baroque counterpoint. Because Musicology is a research-oriented discipline, the major also includes an individual musicology research project, which students complete in addition to their final-year thesis. Performance Students in the Performance major receive individual or small-group tuition on their instrument or voice to develop all the musical skills and techniques expected of a professional musician. Popular Music and Technology Popular music has the power to uplift, stimulate, comfort, motivate and communicate. Its attractiveness lies in its ubiquity, openness and lack of convention. It helps you to understand your own response to music and the society in which you live.
