Enjoy the flexibility to pursue an area of humanities and social sciences that interests you. You'll write a thesis (30,000 words) to apply your specialist knowledge to and make an independent contribution to existing scholarship in the discipline. The University of Melbourne provides research students with support including workshops, seminars and coursework leadership programs. You will cultivate high-level research and writing skills, and study coursework elements that enhance your research training experience.

The Masters degree is designed for students to develop advanced skills in carrying out independent and sustained research in theatre studies. The thesis should demonstrate a critical application of specialist knowledge and make an independent contribution to existing scholarship in the area of research. Candidates may apply to submit up to 50% of the thesis as a creative work. In this case, the thesis is submitted in two parts: a written dissertation, minimum 15,000 words and a creative work (usually a written playscript or a live performance) that is equivalent of up to 15,000 words.

Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.

A qualification and professional experience considered to be equivalent
