At the University of Sydney School of Dentistry, our aim is to put the mouth into health. Our research strengths include microbial pathogenicity, biomaterials, implant technology, tissue regeneration and minimal intervention therapies for management of caries. If you aim to pursue a research career in oral health or a related field, this course is for you. It may also be used as a foundation to commencing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Studying at the Sydney Dental School provides a unique opportunity for collaborative research and interaction with other health disciplines. Across the University there are exciting collaborative research projects actively pursued. The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a research-based degree in which students undertake supervised research in the discipline of dentistry. This course offers students the chance to work with a supervisor who, through their own research, is actively contributing to the development of new knowledge and understanding in the field of dentistry. This course is normally completed over two years full-time, or four years part-time, at the end of which candidates submit a thesis for examination. The word limit for a thesis submitted to the Sydney Dental School is 80,000 words.
