The Social Science Foundation Year provides a chance to sample social science subjects at university level before making a final choice of honours courses (which in this case will be Law), intensive modules which provide the requisite background for specific honours courses for those without the necessary qualifications, access for non-traditionally qualified students to a wide range of social science courses and a broad grounding in academic principles and methods. The single honours programme is recognised as a qualifying law degree, enabling you to train as a solicitor or barrister after graduating. Our law degree examines law in its social, political, ethical, historical and international contexts. You’ll explore core legal subjects such as crime, torts, contract, land, equity and public law, developing your understanding of the rules which structure relationships between governments and citizens, and between private individuals.You’ll study principles and doctrines of English and European and International law and have plenty of opportunities to develop your practical skills. You can take part in mooting (practising oral arguments), client interviewing, and work as a Community Legal Companion, within the innovative CLOCK programme, which was pioneered at Keele. Students who are interested in law but do not wish to enter the legal professions will find our exciting range of combined honours degrees offer great choice and flexibility to fit with a variety of future career choices. Students taking a combined honours degree will graduate with a BA or BSc, which is not a qualifying law degree. Popular combinations include; Business Management, Criminology, Philosophy and Politics.The single honours law programme is accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board as a ‘qualifying law degree’ and thus satisfies the academic stage of legal professional qualification. Your degree will also be of value in many other careers. After further study or training you might work as a company secretary, chartered accountant, tax advisor or in business.
