The Social Science Foundation Year provides you with a chance to sample social science subjects at university level before making a final choice of honours courses, to study intensive modules which provide the requisite background for specific honours courses for those without the necessary qualifications, provides access for non-traditionally qualified students to a wide range of social science courses, and provides a broad grounding in academic principles and methods. This degree will provide the knowledge and professional exemptions you need to train to become a solicitor or barrister. On Law with Criminology, you will learn the key principles and doctrines underlying English, European and International law and develop an understanding of its social, political, historical and comparative contexts. Practical experience could be developed by participating in mooting (practising oral arguments), client interviewing, and working as a Community Legal Companion as part of our innovative CLOCK programme. You will also develop a strong understanding of crime, its relationship to society, and the criminal justice system. You will also learn about the causes of crime, and official and unofficial responses to it. This degree will provide students with the knowledge and professional exemptions needed to train to become a solicitor or barrister. It will also prepare you for a wide range of other career opportunities. This programme is accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board and is a qualifying law degree, enabling you to train to practise as a solicitor or barrister.
