This degree at UEL provides students with a deeper understanding of some of the most urgent social issues today, including: racism, migration, poverty, gender, inequality and identity. Our aim is to prepare our students for a broad range of careers, so that they can make amazing contributions to their communities. Many of our graduates successfully progress to careers or postgraduate training in: social work, teaching, criminal justice, journalism and research. Our students are our first priority. We work hard to ensure that our students get the support they need to succeed. This means that all of our students benefit from close, one-to-one support with a member of staff throughout their degree. We provide our students with the skills they need to succeed in the workplace. All of our students benefit from a work placement to ensure that they gain valuable experience before they graduate. Our highly rated research also means that our students learn from the very cutting edge of knowledge. Our research focuses on real-world problems, including: poverty, racism, nationalism and inequality. Future career: All of our sociology courses at UEL are about working with people. But that doesn’t mean you can only become a social worker at the end of your course. The reality is that a sociology degree will prepare you for a wide variety of jobs; Increased focus on people, relationships and communication skills means that our students have gone into fields as diverse as teaching, human resources, the police and journalism. We have developed partial accreditation with the Chartered institute of Housing for students who in their final year develop a housing focus to their work. This would not dilute the sociological skills developed but rather would use Housing as an area in which these areas are developed; Partial accreditation would enable students to become Members of the Chartered Institute of Housing and on Graduation and in a housing related job to work towards becoming a Chartered d Member of the Institute of Housing supporting rapid career progression.
