The Environmental Monitoring for Management MSc focuses on the dynamic nature of biological and physical environmental systems and teaches the practical and analytical techniques that science, government and industry increasingly need to do in order to assess and manage dynamic environmental systems. In contrast to similarly titled courses at other institutions which emphasise management theory and environmental policy, our Environmental Monitoring for Management MSc focuses on the practical skills required for successful and sustainable environmental management and incorporates lots of field, laboratory and analytical work. The unique emphasis of the Environmental Monitoring for Management MSc is the practical challenge of measuring, analysing and evaluating dynamic environmental data for environmental problem solving and management purposes. It is formulated around our fundamental belief that environmental problem-solving and management must be based on asking the right questions, collecting the correct data, analysing it in an appropriate way and evaluating it in an applied context. Our graduates have an excellent track record of securing jobs in environmental consultancy, research and government agencies, in fields including flood risk modelling and engineering, catastrophe risk analysis, water quality monitoring and transport planning.
