Joint Honours degrees enable you to have the maximum flexibility to study subject areas that really interest you. GERMAN at NTU is offered as a post A-level subject. German at NTU covers language and life in Germany as well as exploring the implications of history, society and politics. You'll examine a range of contemporary German Film and Literature. The course will explore all areas of the German language and life in Germany. HISTORY at NTU will introduce you to diverse peoples, nations and ideas from medieval and early modern right through to contemporary history within Britain across to the Americas, Asia and the Far East. Both subjects will enable you to enhance your written and verbal communication, independent learning, creativity and analytical skills. German at NTU has been created to ensure a quick learning progress of the German language and an in-depth understanding of the societies and cultures in which it is spoken. In Year Three you can spend time working or studying in Germany or Austria. Our partner universities are found in Bremen, Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Paderborn, Potsdam and Innsbruck.This course will help you to gain impressive communication skills such as writing, listening and reading, whilst developing your accuracy and fluency of the language. To help improve your career prospects you'll be able to take a final year module which will help you with translation and interpreting. You'll be taught using the latest language-teaching methodologies and CALL technologies and have access to NTU’s resource centres and computer aided language learning software. History at NTU offers a range of ways to make sense of the past by utilising a selection of approaches and skills. This course requires you to be intellectually curious about the subject, be passionate and focused. The academic team at NTU teaches specialist modules informed by their own research specialisms, including; History Matters, Conflicts and Cultures in Mid-Victorian England 1850-1880 and Real Life Work Project. The skills that you will gain from this joint honours degree such as excellent organisation, multi-tasking and to produce analytical work to a high standard are all desired skills which today's leading employers are seeking. NTU's German course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the German language and culture. You'll be able to practically apply your learning of both subjects and to gain an experience and independence in a European country. You'll be able to gather information in a modern language, assess and interpret it and be able to organise your workload efficiently. Many firms want to recruit language students who are able to communicate with clients and colleagues in a variety of ways for various situations. Combining German with History will provide you with a diverse skill range such as be able to conceptually analyse sources and work, help you to become more creative, you'll be able to project manage effectively, take an initiative and work well within a team and independently. Many graduates from this course have secured careers within a range of sectors such as; blue chip companies, The European Parliament and international charities. Other students have fulfilled roles within many public relations firms, museum heritage positions and within the education sector. 91% of our history joint honours undergraduates are in work or further study within just six months of finishing their degree (DLHE 2015-16).

Students who completed High School Year 2 grades of 70% and above will be considered for foundation courses at Nottingham Trent International College (NTIC) and those who hold High School Year 3 grades of 80% and above will be considered for International Year One courses at NTIC.
