Using your existing degree as an introduction, the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Newcastle is a two year program, producing highly competent and fully qualified graduates ready to enter a rewarding career as a secondary teacher. Throughout the program you will examine the key concepts and theories from educational philosophy, psychology and sociology as they relate to teaching and learning, explore language as a social practice, the principles and practice of quality teaching, the use and conduct of educational research, the integration of new technologies into learning and curriculum essentials for the discipline/s you are preparing to teach. To effectively prepare you for the job you will undertake 60 days’ formal professional experience in school settings, and have many opportunities for ongoing involvement with our partner schools. Career Opportunities At the completion of your Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Newcastle, you will be equipped with the appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to flourish as an inspirational teacher in secondary schools. You will enter the education system as a capable and professional individual with a well-developed sense of professional ethics. Upon graduation you will be eligible to apply for registration with the NSW Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards, essential for employment as a teacher in NSW. Your postgraduate qualification will also support registration as a teacher in other jurisdictions both nationally and internationally.
