Designed for individuals who have already successfully completed a bachelor degree in an approved public health related discipline, you will be required to complete eight courses, four of which are compulsory. These courses will have you studying: biostatistics – where you will be introduced to basic statistical concepts in data presentation, probability distributions, confidence intervals hypothesis testing, sample size and power. You will learn to understand statistical reasoning and its application to epidemiological studies as well as read and critically evaluate the statistical section of journal articles. epidemiology – which will introduce you to the basic concepts including the distribution and determinants of disease in specific populations and the application of this knowledge to the evaluation and control of health problems in the community. public health – you will learn the biological, social and environmental causes and patterns in disease in populations, as well as gain an understanding of economic and political processes in determining evidence-based interventions to address those diseases of significance within populations. social and ecosystem health - this course draws together two important emerging areas of public health: social determinants of health inequality and the ecosystem health perspective (ecohealth). You will come to understand the social and ecosystem causes of human disease which is essential for developing and implementing effective public health policies.
