This course is for those who want to understand where power lies in political systems and how this affects the organisation of society. The course offers a thorough grounding in the study of politics together with the opportunity to specialise. In the first year you will take two introductory modules in politics, one focusing on the study of government and the other on political ideas and ideologies, together with two modules in International Relations and two modules in a supplementary subject. The course is flexible enough to allow you the opportunity to switch at the end of the first year to specialise in any one of the subjects taken that year. In year two, you will concentrate on the three main areas of the discipline - Government, Political Theory and International Relations - allowing you, in year three, to specialise in areas of the subject that particularly interest you. The final year also affords the opportunity for you to write a dissertation on a topic of your own choosing.
