This course is for those who are interested in the nature of political economy and want to bring together insight from two of the fundamental disciplines in social science. The programme aims to: provide a challenging curriculum for students by utilising the strength of the Politics Department in partnership with teaching and research expertise from Economics; ensure a rigorous programme of study - embodying a disciplined flexibility - across both subjects and by exploring the natural intellectual synergies between politics and economics; enable students to apply a theoretical understanding of politics within an economical and contemporary context; develop student expertise in the key areas of both disciplines - allowing for dissertation specialisation in the final year; instil transferable learning skills by a grounding in methods and their application - in and after students’ university careers; unite home and international students in a study of the most pressing issues in politics and economics and the forces which shape these disciplines; assist students to develop a range of cognitive and social skills relevant to their intellectual, vocational and personal development.
