This course is for those who are interested in the complementary disciplines of History and Politics. You will develop an awareness of the contemporary world and a clear perception of the historical roots of its social, economic and political structures, ideas and problems. During this degree you will explore the complementary disciplines of history and politics. By studying domestic and foreign policies it is possible to understand how political progress or conservatism has led to the most prolific events in modern history. In this course you will spend your first year acquiring a firm grounding in the major historical events of modern history and the core concepts of politics and international relations. In second year the single compulsory module will hone your ability to scrutinise the past with an objective eye and consider all possible perspectives without projecting modern ideas onto past actions. The remainder of your learning will be elective. You will have the opportunity to choose modules from a wide range of periods and study them with your newly developed skills. In final year you will have even more freedom to direct the course of your degree. The only compulsory module is a dissertation, the subject of which is your decision. Similar to your second year, you will choose from a plethora of modules covering all manner of historical periods.
