This course is ideal if you have a background in mathematics, physics or a closely related subject, and want to apply this knowledge to pressing real-world problems such as climate change and extreme weather. You will gain strong computing and analytical skills, as well as research skills such as project design, execution and communication. Our on-campus instrumentation lab and atmospheric observatory – as well as various field trip opportunities – provide you with plenty of opportunities to improve your practical skills. In this course you will develop the skills needed to understand the fundamentals of the fluid dynamics of the atmosphere and oceans, and develop numerical models of them. All of our master's courses are fully accredited by the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS). On completion of this course as one of our graduates, you will be well placed to pursue a scientific career in weather forecasting and meteorological research. In recent years, our students have been recruited by AIR, Arup, FUGRO GEOS, MeteoGroup, RMS and the UK Met Office. Others pursue careers associated with diverse aspects of environmental measurement, risk management and policy development. Students will also achieve PgDip award in this course.
